夜空を覆い尽くすオーロラ　〜ユーコン河のほとりにて〜（１）

Aurora blasted on the Yukon River vol. 1.

オーロラは春分と秋分のころ、最も強くなると言われています。
今日は天気もよく、アラスカ大学のオーロラ予報もオーロラがよく出そうなことを言っていたので、少し遠出をして ユーコン川のほとりまでオーロラの写真を撮りに行くことにしました。
I have heard that the aurora is the most active at the spring and autumn equinoxes.
It was clear today and aurora forecast of Univ. of Alaska Fairbanks said the aurora would be active tonight, so, I went to Yukon River to take pictures of the aurora.

ここは以前、夏に北極海沿岸のプルドーベイに行ったときに 通ったところです。フェアバンクスからは車で北に3、4時間といったところでしょうか。 近くには北極海のプルドーベイから太平洋岸のバルディーズまで原油を運ぶアラスカ縦断パイプラインも通っています。 こんなに天気が良くても、実は今日はけっこう寒いです。頬がちりちりし、フードを取ると 一瞬にして耳の感覚が無くなります。-３０℃くらいはありそうな気がします。 Here is 3 or 4 hour-drive from Fairbanks to the north. I came here in the last summer when I went to Prudhoe Bay. The pipeline, sending oil from Prudhoe Bay, Arctic Ocean side, to Valdez, Pacific Ocean side, also crosses Yukon River here. It is very cold today even it's sunny, I feel chilblain on my cheeks, and lose the sense of my ears soon while I take off hood to take picture. The temperature may be about 20 bellow zero.

ユーコン河も全面氷結していますね。
Yukon River freezes up completely.




せっかくだから北極圏までちょこっと足を延ばしてみました。
I also went to the Arctic Circle.



う〜ん、冬にこんなに遠出するなんて実はけっこうな冒険なのですが、北極圏の標識の周りにはけっこう足跡が たくさんありました。まあ、冬に陸路でプルドーベイに行くツアーもありますからね。
Gee, it is a little expedition to come here in winter, but it looked that there were many people who came here. It may be because there are commercial tours to go to Prudhoe Bay by vehicle.

さて、ユーコン河まで戻り、夜に備えて一眠りします。
I went back to Yukon River and slept to prepare for aurora.
