プルドーベイへのドライブ（１）

Drive to Prudhoe Bay vol.1.

プルドーベイ、それはフェアバンクスからダルトン・ハイウェイを北に800km行ったところにある石油基地です。
Prudhoe Bay, it's a petroleum base existing 500 mile north from Fairbanks at the end of Dalton Highway.

北極海沿岸に位置するこの油田は、1977年の
アラスカ縦断パイプラインの完成以来、一日
60万バーレルもの原油を太平洋岸のバルディ
ーズに送り出しています。
This oil field located on Arctic Ocean side has
sent six hundred thousand barrels of oil a day
to Valdez which exists on Pacific Ocean side
since Trans-Alaska pipeline was built in 1977.

今回、広美はこのパイプラインに沿った道、ダルトン・ハイウェイを走り通してみることにしました。
まずはフェアバンクスのパイプラインの脇で記念撮影です。
In this time, I, Hiromi drove whole of Dalton highway along the pipeline.
First of all, I took a picture by the pipeline in Fairbanks for certification I started from Fairbanks.




フェアバンクス郊外の最後のガソリンスタンドで給油します。
ここから先は118マイル（190km）先のユーコン川までガソリンスタンドがありません。
I filled gas at the last gas station in the suburbs of Fairbanks.
There is no service station before Yukon river which is 118 mile distance.




でも、それで驚いていてはいけません。
最も距離の離れたところでは、240マイル（380km）もの間、ガソリンスタンドが有りません。
で、どうするかというと、、、
But it does not surprise me because the farthest distance
in which there is no service station is 240 miles.
So what I did was, . . .




ガソリンタンクを満載して行きました。
5ガロンタンクを４つ、全部で20ガロン（約76l）あります。
これとメインタンクを合わせれば、240マイルの往復も軽いはずです。
loading four extra 5 gallon tanks in my car.
Adding the main tank, my car can continue to run for go and back of 240 mile distance.

最初の118マイルはユーコン河に架かる橋までで、3時間半くらいで順調に来れました。
ここはレストラン、モーテルとガソリンスタンドがあります。
The first 118 mile was quite smooth to drive. It took three and half hours to reach the bridge
crossing Yukon river. There was a restaurant, a motel and a gas station here.

遠くに見える灰色のラインがパイプラインです。 （大きな画像じゃないとよくわからないよ。）
パイプラインは橋と一緒にユーコン河を渡っています。
橋は、断崖絶壁のようなすごい所に架かっています。
Gray line laying farther on the above picture is the pipeline.
(You might not see it on the small picture, see large picture.)
Pipeline crosses the river with the bridge.
The bridge was built between the top of cliff and plane.

ユーコン河はアラスカで最も大きな河です。
雄大さに魅せられて、写真をたくさん撮ってしまいました。
Yukon river is the largest river in Alaska.
Being attracted by grandness, I took a lot of pictures.

さて、道のりはまだ遠いのだから、先を急がなくちゃね。
