Can bananas be used as hammers to drive nails?
アラスカに住んでいるというと、よく「バナナで釘が打てますか？」って質問されます。
そこで、今日は実際にバナナで釘が打てるかどうか実験してみました。
I am often asked "Can you drive nails with a banana?" by those who get to know that
I live in Alaska. So, I experiment to make sure it today.

The temperature is,
‐38℃くらいでしょうか。バナナは20分も放置すればかちこちに凍ります。
thirty five degrees below zero in Fahrenheit.
It is cold enough to freeze up bananas in twenty minute.
それじゃ、さっそく凍ったバナナで釘を打ってみましょう。まずは木片から。
Well, let's try to hammer a nail with a frozen banana. At first, the target is a wood piece.
なかなかいい感じ。。だけど、、、あれ？ バナナの方に釘が食い込んじゃった。
Good feeling. . . but. . . . . gee, the nail is driven into banana!
いくら凍っていても、やっぱりバナナより木の方が固いみたい。
Even though the banana is frozen, wood seems to be more tough than banana.
それじゃターゲットを凍ったバナナに変えてみたら、、、
Then, I change the target to another frozen banana, , and, ,
今度はうまくいったみたい。えっ、当たり前だって？
そうかなぁ。だってバナナはこんなふうに折れるくらいにかちこちに凍っていたんですよぉ。。
It works well this time. Uh? is it of course?
But the target banana froze up completely enough to break like that, didn't it?

そう、シャボン玉なんです。
シャボン玉はストローから離れると、空気中を漂う数秒のうちに凍って、
グラスで受けとめることができます。
Yes, soap bubbles.
Soap bubbles freeze up in few seconds during in air,
and they can be received with a glass.
アラスカでは、シャボン玉のようにはかないものも永遠に壊れないんです。
日常の世界では、夢はいつかは覚めて壊れてしまうものだけど、
ここでは夢も永遠に壊れないの。
壊れない夢は現実と同じ。
きっといつか、広美の夢も現実になるの。そう信じています。
Fragile things like bubbles get eternal life in Alaska.
Dreams are also easily broken in usual world,
but they will get eternal life here too.
Unbreakable dream is a reality.
My dream will become true someday, I believe.
